Modern consumers seek convenience, and the ability to heat frozen foods and ready-to-eat meals directly in the microwave without opening the package has become a new trend in packaging. Microwavable VSP Skin Film was developed in response to this demand. Building on traditional vacuum skin packaging (VSP), it incorporates heat-resistant materials, self-venting capabilities, and an easy-open design, enabling the packaging to serve both preservation and cooking functions.

VSP Skin Packaging: How Does the Film Hug the Food Tightly?
Vacuum skin packaging (VSP) uses vacuum pressure to tightly seal the top layer of film-which has been softened by heat-against the product's surface, forming a covering that acts like a second skin. Compared to standard vacuum packaging, VSP virtually eliminates air gaps between the film and the product, reduces residual oxygen, and prevents juice leakage and frost buildup. As the top web, Microwavable VSP Skin Film must withstand heating and stretching in the vacuum chamber without perforation and adhere firmly to the support member. Film thickness can be customized from 0.05 mm to 0.5 mm to accommodate different product shapes and forming depths.
Multilayer Co-Extrusion Structure: Integration of Heat Resistance and Barrier Properties
This film utilizes a multilayer co-extrusion process to integrate a forming layer, a barrier layer, and a sealing layer. The barrier layer typically consists of materials such as EVOH, providing excellent oxygen barrier properties and extending shelf life. Food-grade resins, such as linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE), are selected for the material, with heat resistance up to 120°C without deformation. Both the film's water vapor transmission rate and barrier configuration can be flexibly adjusted to meet the freshness preservation needs of various foods.

Self-Venting and Easy-Open: Core Convenience for Microwave Heating
Microwavable VSP Skin Film features a self-venting function. During microwave heating, water vapor causes the film to expand; once a pressure threshold is reached, it automatically vents through the sealed area, preventing bursting and ensuring even heating. After heating, the film naturally relaxes and re-adheres. Consumers can heat the food directly without tearing open the package or piercing the film, truly achieving a seamless experience from the refrigerator to the microwave. At the same time, the easy-open design makes tearing open the package after heating effortless.
Wide Applicability for Meat, Seafood, and Ready-to-Eat Meals
This film is widely used for skin-tight packaging of meat (such as beef, pork, and poultry), seafood (such as fish fillets, shrimp, and shellfish), poultry, as well as ready-to-eat meals and frozen foods. Its puncture resistance makes it equally suitable for bone-in products. Its high transparency facilitates visual inspection at the retail level, while its microwave-safe properties offer convenience to busy households. It is often paired with high-heat-resistant trays, such as CPET, to form a complete microwaveable packaging solution.
