Mondini, jointly developed a polymer-free vacuum skin packaging material designed to address the industry-wide challenges of high costs and supply chain instability that have long plagued traditional polymer-based packaging. Traditional copolymer materials are commonly used in high-end vacuum skin packaging due to their excellent optical properties and seal strength; however, the supply of raw materials is susceptible to market fluctuations, and production costs remain high. This innovative solution utilizes high-performance polyethylene resins from the Exceed series and EVA polymers, combined with EVAL barrier material provided by Kuraray. The three primary resin components are responsible for optical and mechanical sealing performance, excellent formability, and tight-fitting characteristics, respectively. Produced via GAP film blowing and rigorously tested on G.Mondini vacuum skin packaging lines, this material delivers outstanding performance in both semi-automatic and fully automatic systems, achieving a gloss level of 81 and a low haze of 7.5%. While maintaining key advantages such as tear resistance, puncture resistance, and high barrier properties, it significantly reduces reliance on restricted materials. This technological breakthrough means that high-performance vacuum packaging no longer has to rely on traditional copolymers, offering food manufacturers a new option with greater cost flexibility and supply chain stability.
